Episode 35 - Andy Frazier on a Different Approach to Ministry
On this week’s episode, Mark interviews Andy about a different approach to ministry. Andy shares a little about his calling to serve in an unconventional manner. He talks about life as a pastor and also shares some insight about working as a farrier. (If you don’t know what a farrier is, listen in and you’ll find out!)

If you want to know more about this different approach to ministry, or if you need help balancing life as a bi-vocational church leader, you can contact Andy or Mark at

“I actually went to apprentice with a farrier, a horseshoer, worked with him for a while and realized that’s something that I could do. So, I actually went and got more skilled training, and moved to Oklahoma. I went to horseshoeing school there…”

“I began having a hunger and a desire not to just have a standard 9 to 5 professional ministry job. I was very comfortable with that, but I was also uncomfortable with that.”

“It’s a great opportunity for me to, not only provide an income for my family, but to build relationships outside of my normal ministry setting.”

“I will say diversity and discipline play a big part in the risk-taking faith factor… The diversity God has allowed me to experience in my life has been fantastic… If I don’t have discipline in my life, I’m not going to be able to take risks.”

(From Mark): “I think there are a lot of leaders, especially pastors,… that probably have a gifting or a skill set, or even a desire to do something a little different; And the good news is, you don’t have to do it exactly like whatever you’ve seen, or whatever the expectation is from the people in your life.”

“It’s not beneath you to have a secular job, and to serve at your church also.”

“I do see bi-vocational ministry as more of a viable option and not a back-up in ministry coming down the road.”
